Porcelain design 2021

The aim of the course is to select a rotational object from everyday life or from images, analyze its form, and then develop a new rotational shape based on that analysis.

In the second phase, the rotational form is to be transformed and the principle of rotation deconstructed. Taking into account the technical and aesthetic qualities of porcelain, the design will be translated into a 3D printing file and printed. The printed model will then be cast in plaster, and the resulting plaster mold will enable the production of a porcelain prototype.

The form appears different depends on the perspective.

it seems figurative and stable from certain angles. It also conveys a sense of direction or movement—either upward or downward. When there are two large truncated cones suggesting an upward trend, like a hollow screw pointing clearly upward, the presence of four small triangles, on the other hand, indicates a downward direction. This opposition disrupts a clear directional reading. The form does not provide a definitive answer as to whether the direction is truly upward or downward.

From a third perspective, the figure appears fluid, elastic, dynamic, yet also unstable. The focus is more on the curved, moving midsection of the form. Due to the strong twist of the figure, it seems unstable, as if it might tip over. However, it can still stand securely because its center of gravity remains aligned with the central axis.

In summary, the figure is compelling because it evokes different impressions. It’s worth reflecting on, as it incorporates many contrasting elements, which in turn raise various questions. Viewers are encouraged to explore the form and find their own interpretations.
